And her heart grew a few sizes...

On » March 22, 2006 //
So as always I've been looking for a new job, because let's face it there's no way that I want to spend the rest of my life at IKEA as a cashier. That would be a complete waste of the last 4 years that I spent in university working on getting my degree. I could've just flushed all that cash down the toilet for all that I have accomplished thus far. Whoops, there I go off on a tangent again, back to my point. I was bouncing around on Charity Village and I decided to check out the volunteer opprotunites because honestly it's not always all about me. Even though I'll admit that I sometimes think it should be.

Anyway there was a posting that really jumped out at me, and I've already gotten in contact with the volunteer co-ordindator to get involved. Child Find Ontario is looking for volunteers to help educate parents about the unknown dangers that are out there.

Their website is just this huge mass of information, some is a little surprising, some is just sad but for the most part they are just trying to get the information out to the communities that there is someone out there working to keep things a little safer for children. It's definitely worth a read. For instance, there's probably a lot about Child Find that people don't know like "Child Find Ontario is dedicated to reducing the incidence of missing and exploited children and youth in Ontario. Child Find works closely with law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, lawyers, and corporate partners on behalf of missing children and their families. Child Find Ontario has been endorsed by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and is recognized by the RCMP/National Missing Children Services. Last year, Child Find tracked a 98% successful recovery rate for the cases with which we were involved. We have helped to recover over 500 missing, runaway and abducted children and teens, some as long as 11 years after being reported missing. Of 11 cases featured on monthly corporate billing envelopes last year, seven children were recovered. One out of every six recovered children is found because someone saw their photograph and it generated a tip. Media, law enforcement and our North American and international partner agencies regard Child Find Ontario as the leader in this field. "

Ok so that's my little heart-felt mushy rant for this afternoon, but I really believe that we should all be doing something to better ourselves and our communities. So get out there and volunteer people!! Even if it's just hanging out helping at a community centre, be proactive because if we don't do something help and make some kind of difference in society no matter how small, then it could all just go to shit!

Rant over.
