Sex & Women...Taboo?

On » March 14, 2005 //
Now, while celebrating one's birthday is fun, doing so on a Sunday night is not the ideal situation when you've got to work the next morning. Especially when those festivities include sitting at the Royal Oak downing concoction after concoction.

Nonetheless, this is what the girls and I did last night. Rather, that was what we did after standing outside freezing for 30 minutes waiting to get into Barrymore's. Obviously we gave up and walked across the street to the Oak. Anyway during the course of the evening and the alcohol consumption, conversation swayed itself towards things of the sexual nature. The more we sat there openly talking about sex and all things related the stranger the looks we got from the guys around us. It's not like we were talking about anything that was in anyway deviant or whatever. At one point we were talking about threesomes and girl/girl and the guy beside us just gave us the strangest of looks as if we were sitting there with straws sticking out of our hair and pizza hanging off our chins!

What is the big deal?? Why is there such a taboo attached to women talking about sex? It's not like guys don't do it. They do and often quite openly. So how is it different if it's women?! Obviously there is still a stigma associated with women in society. Regardless of the social advances we've made, we're still not supposed to talk about things like sex in public (or at all in some cases) because that's not something that "good girls" or "proper young ladies" do!

I live with two guys and when their friends are over all we seem to talk about is sex! So it's pretty normal that during the course of any given day I will at some point be talking about sex with someone. But I guess that there are just some people that aren't quite comfortable with women who talk about sex as openly as men do. And to them I say:

SUCK IT UP PRINCESS, WE ENJOY SEX TOO!!
